My topic is My Grandmother, and my assertion is that she is the strongest woman I have ever known. The main idea I want my reader to understand is that with all things my grandmother went through in her life, she was still happy and independent.
My topic is My little cousin, and my assertion is that since her mother passed away nine years ago she has been alot with living with her father but at the end of the day you could never tell. The main idea I want my reader to understand is that after all the stress and abuse my cousin has been through, she still has hope for her life to get better.
My topic is the death of my three grandparents in one year, and my assertion is how they affected my life.The main idea I want my reader to understand is In losing my grandparents it didn’t break me as a person it just made me stronger.

What you should ask is why is she the strongest woman you have ever known? What has she gone through? Remember, saying that your grandmother was strong is only a telling statement. The reader wants to know "why".

As readers, what we need to see is how has your cousin carried herself? What has she been through? How has it affected her? If you focus on many events and you find that you are having a difficult time relating them (or you are writing a really really really long paper), narrow it down to one event.

Sam, what you will need to do is to walk us through the deaths of your grandparents. In doing so, as readers, we need to see who these individuals are, how did they influence you, how were they significant to you, and lastly, you may tell us briefly how each died. As I have told Jerann, if you find that you are having difficulty organizing these (or writing a really really really long paper), you may need to focus on only one grandparent.

So, in actuality, you are writing about a specific event tied with a specific individual (or two in your case). As readers, we need to see how this affected you. How did your father remarrying help you in a way?
My topic is my drive to be sucessful in this world,my assertion is how my drive will impact my future. the main idea that i want my reader to understand, is no matter what curve balls life may throw at you as long as you keep that drive to be sucessful cant dont nothing stop you.
